Indian Head Massage springs from a rich tradition.  Massage has always played an important part in Indian life, featuring in the earliest Ayurvedic texts from nearly 4000 years ago.  Babies in India receive a daily massage, infants receive massage once or twice a week and from the age of six, children are encouraged to share a massage with other family members.

Narendra Mehta arrived in London in the 1970s to train as a physiotherapist. He was disappointed to find that massage did not feature greatly, and that the massage that was taught did not include head massage.  So he decided to formalise the techniques of Indian Head Massage and pass the knowledge on to others. There is more information available in my blog article on Indian Head Massage.
